Laser Skin Resurfacing In Philadelphia

Non-ablative laser treatments are less invasive, and less aggressive than traditional resurfacing. Instead of one, catch-all procedure, the non-ablative approach employs a series of treatments. This method reduces downtime and risk. So how does it work?

Essentially, a safe laser is “pulsed” over an area of damaged skin. The skin’s internal structure, the dermis, is stimulated by the pulse and, at a certain temperature, collagen begins to break down. This process is called “denaturation,” and when your body realizes that it’s happening, it goes into overdrive to heal itself. New collagen is created and your skin is resurfaced with a fresh, smooth layer.

In practice, each new treatment creates thousands of microscopic wounds while leaving the surrounding skin intact. Over a series of treatments, you’re able to resurface the entire face and/or treatment area, improving fine lines, sunspots, discoloration, large pores, scars, and stretch marks.

What Are The Benefits Of Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Laser skin resurfacing is extremely effective for minimizing the appearance of scarring. In addition to creating new skin, laser treatments boost collagen production, resulting in a more even complexion after a series of treatments. The number and severity of scars will dictate which type of treatment setting is used.

Scars and pores begin to blur, becoming smaller in both diameter and depth. Downtime associated with fractional resurfacing is limited; you might look a little sunburned for two to five days depending on the “aggression” of treatment settings. Treatment feels like multiple pin pricks, and topical anesthetics and cooling agents are used.

Who Is A Good Candidate For Laser Skin Resurfacing?

The procedure is ideal for those who have less time to be out of commission. It is commonly used to treat:

  • Surgical scars
  • Acne scars
  • Stretch marks
  • Melasma
  • Facial Rejuvenation

After two or three treatments over a six-month period, spots and fine lines will fade away. The skin will look smooth and retextured.
